This is the video channel of Hyon Gak Sunim, one of the most prominent disciples of the legendary Zen Master Seung Sahn (1927-2004). Sunim is an American-born Zen monk who graduated from Yale ('87) and Harvard ('92), ordained in China, and received "inka" ("recognition of enlightenment") by Seung Sahn Sunim at Hwa Gye Sah Temple, Korea, in August 2001. He has completed over 40 traditional 90-day intensive Zen retreats at temples through South Korea, and has practiced in Japan and China. The former Buddhist co-Chaplain at Harvard University (1996-97), he has given public talks at Harvard, Yale, Stanford, UC-Berkeley, Oxford, Columbia, Union Theological Seminary, SUNY, Université de Paris, University of London, Charles University (Prague), University of Latvia, Vilnius University, University of Salzburg, among many others. /// In June 2018, he was invited to teach Zen meditation at a conference in the Vatican -- the first time that Zen is ever known to have been taught in the Vatican.
