I'm building a life-sized USS Enterprise (TOS) in Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML).
I'm also building a life-sized Millennium Falcon (Star Wars) in VRML.
I'll post new videos to show my progress.
The point of VRML is to allow REAL-TIME rendering and interaction with virtual environments.
So, with VRML I get to walk around inside the ship. The doors woosh, the bridge panels flash, the com whistles, the turbolifts work, all the rooms are unfurnished (as yet).
When I started, I didn't know whether I could do this. I'm using stills from the show, official deck plans and programming skills to build all the decks, all the rooms, the whole thing.
I've built a database and use VBA code to reassemble the VRML for walls and doors. I use Javascript to prototype and animate the doors, the turbolift, the control panels, switches and the links between them.
