Born on 04.08.1901; Died on 06.07.1971
Louis Armstrong, nicknamed Satchmo or Pops, is a jazz trumpeter and singer from New Orleans.
He created the scat, a jazzy singing style employing onomatopoeia instead of words. He spend his childhood with his mother and grandmother in poverty. Soon, the young Louis, who is very turbulent, joined songs and music groups while playing in bars.
In 1922, his career took off and he recorded his first albums. His tours in the 30s are real success, but in 1935, Louis breaks a labial muscle, which is essential to play the trumpet, and is forced to stop playing for a year. Yet this is far from the end of his career.
During decades, it provides 300 concerts a year, and in 1964 he recorded his most famous song, "Hello, Dolly".
Until his last day, Louis Armstrong plays and sings jazz wherever he can. He died July 6, 1971 of a heart attack.
