The Empire of Brazil
The monarchy gave us the great country that is Brazil. Fighting separatists movements and estabilishing a central goverment ,kept the nation united. The monarchist period began with the arrival of Dom João VI and the portuguese court in 1808, fleeing from the Napoleonic army that invaded Portugal ( United Kingdon of Brazil , Portugal and Algarves ).
After the independence, in 1822 the regime continued with the the brazilian emperors Dom Pedro I ( Dom João's VI son ) and Dom Pedro II.
Dom Pedro II was our greatest emperor, prepared since childhood for the throne. He respected the democracy, the constitution and press freedon. It was a period marked by political stability and development.
After the coup d'état, in 1889 began the republican period with instability and corruption, that lasts until today.
