John Montesante is a musician, arranger, composer and band-leader, who started his career as a jazz musician and then diversified for a time to remain in work. He founded a 13 piece soul band, Grand WaZoo, in 1981, then a 20 piece Big Band, JM's Café Society Orchestra, and in 1990, a modern jazz combo, John Montesante Quintet (JMQ). Around 2013 he formed an expanded ten piece version of the JMQ, to breathe life into his dedicated jazz arrangements. That outfit is called The John Montesante Dectet.
