Unless I completely forget a riff, I just keep the take regardless of mistakes. Tend to record in batches so I only have to set up for recording the video and audio once. Videos are just a bit of fun, often switching between guitar parts depending on what's enjoyable to play. Fair few songs are from bands I don't listen to much anymore but couldn't play when I did, so it's satisfying to do it now. I like single take videos, without millions of camera angles so that's what I do here.
Songs are just whatever I happened to hear and think "I want to play that" or "that's a cool riff". Sometimes I'll hear an album I've not listened to since I was little and couldn't play at the time, so I learn it now even though I barely listen to it anymore, like Ov Fire and the Void which was the song that made me originally learn tremolo picking, or Lamb of God when I could barely alternate pick yet.
Tend to use a mix of ear, tab, and watching live videos.
